We hope that this monthly installment of “Around the Office” finds you and your family in good health. When we talk about health we are taking into consideration your physical health, mental health/well-being, and your financial health. Over the last few weeks we have been keeping you informed about how this crisis is impacting the markets, the economy, and ultimately your investments. Just like the markets experienced a quick reversal, we have all experienced a serious change in our day-to-day lives overnight.
Change and uncertainty leads to an increase in anxiety. We are all trying to find ways to adjust to this “new normal”, manage our stress, and focus on the positives. One positive is that we have been given the gift of time with our immediate family. Craig, Terri, and I all have teenage boys that run from school, to sporting events, and in many cases prioritize time with friends over time with family. Here are a few things that we are doing to enjoy time with family, exercise, and foster our well-being:
- Madison Land Conservation Trust Hiking Trails
- Cooking together and enjoying family meals
- Puzzles (my son is working on a 2000 piece)
- Game Night: Codenames, Escape Room Games,
- Movie Night: Peanut Butter Falcon, Blinded by the Light
- Taking a walk/drive
- FaceTime or Zoom with family and friends: virtual cocktail hour
- Meditation
- Gardening
Cultivating hope in times of fear can be difficult but these types of activities can help shift our mindset to make our anxiety less intense. Burt White, our Chief Investment Officer, likes to say, “the future is not cancelled”. We will get through this together and have greater appreciation for spending time with friends and family on the other side. Be well and let us know if there is anything we can do to help you through this challenging time.
All the Best!
Kim & Craig
